Our Teaching Team

Jeanne Chung

Jeanne Chung

Jeanne Chung, the founder of Absolute Yoga Singapore, is a former investment banker turned yogini. From her very first yoga class, Jeanne was hooked. Further study was an unfolding of the power and beauty of the yoga path and Jeanne couldn’t help but share it. Jeanne became a certified yoga teacher and then moved from San Francisco specifically to open ABSOLUTE YOGA and share her passion for yoga with Singapore.

Jeanne is a certified instructor for Bikram Hot Yoga and Jivamukti Yoga, and her teaching style is influenced by her trainings with Baron Baptiste, David Swenson, Shiva Rea, and Erich Schiffmann. Her own teaching style has been blessed by the influence of all her teachers and is so grateful for all sources of inspiration and awe.

Angela Bruhns

Angela discovered Bikram Yoga in 2002 and a few weeks later she was sure that Yoga was to be a permanent part of her life. And becoming a Yoga teacher came naturally.

After teaching in West Palm Beach and Buffalo, N.Y. in the U.S and Hamburg, Germany she moved back to Bangkok, Thailand where she taught for Absolute Yoga for the past 4 years.

After several teacher trainings in Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin Yoga she became a Pilates Mat Work Instructor (and is now a certified STOTT PILATES Instructor) and Lifestyle Consultant in 2008. Since the beginning of 2009 she is part of the Absolute Team in Singapore.

Andrew Buttle

Andrew used to run 10k five days a week while in university. Gradually, due to the high impact of running Andrew’s knees and ankles began to hurt, eventually getting to the point where he could no longer walk without pain. Wanting to continue exercising without further injury, a friend suggested he try Bikram Yoga. Not only did he find the workout he was looking for, he instantly started to notice a decrease in pain in both ankles and knees walking without pain.

Andrew realised the immense potential of yoga and did the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 2003. Since then Andrew has travelled to many parts of Canada and Southeast Asia teaching yoga including Singapore (Andrew was one of the first teachers at our Telok Ayer Studio), Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Andrew has also completed teacher trainings with Andrey Lappa (Universal Yoga) and Geshe Michael Roach (Lady Niguma Yoga), and studied with many other international yoga teachers. Andrew wants to help people maintain their health, and use yoga to achieve their full potential.

Colette Ward

Colette is from Lanarkshire in Scotland – that explains her funny accent!

After studying bodywork and complimentary therapy in Glasgow, she began her travels working for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. On returning to the U.K. Colette was inspired by the health benefits of yoga and ayurvedic medicine through a doctor she met in London. She started a consistent Hatha and Iyengar yoga practise and discovered Bikram Hot Yoga in 1998. Colette became a Certified Bikram Instructor in 2001, teaching in Jersey (Channel Oslands) until she came to Asia.

Colette’s teaching and practice is influenced by Iyengar yoga’s form and alignment. At present she is studying ayurvedic nutrition which complements the yogic lifestyle. Colette is excited to call Asia home for a ‘wee’ while.

Jacqueline Ramirez

Jacque (Jack-eee) was first introduced to the world of Yoga by her mom when she was 17. Developing a fiery passion right from the very beginning, she has tested, tried, and played with all types of Yoga.

On the mat, she found freedom from her mobile lifestyle practicing and studying all types of Yoga back in California. Discovering HOT YOGA only in 2007 when she moved to Singapore, the wheels of her passion started to take speed and shape. Before venturing to Southeast Asia, she studied Advertising and Art Direction at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her young career has panned from restaurant design and creative business development.

Being a humanitarian at heart, Jacque has travelled to India several times with Trauma Specialist to document their work after the Tsunami in 2004. As the team photographer, she witnessed the work it takes in aiding tsunami survivors with Post Traumatic stress. It was during a recent trip to India where she had a brush with the universe, and her path was made clear to her: she wanted to make some changes in the world. Thereafter, she returned to Singapore, all ready to dive into Yoga, full time.

In October 2009 she completed a 200-hour Hot Yoga Teacher Training with Absolute Yoga. Off the mat she is the dedicated Vice-President of Lotus Circle International, which provides support and empowerment to the underserved villages in Auroville, India. Expanding the work in India, she recently founded Craft For Cause, a social enterprise that serves to provide jobs and teach useful skills to her dear friends back in India!

A yogi at heart, Jacque is dedicated to sharing her love for all beings with whomever she meets. In her next life, she plans to come back as a Bollywood movie star… who also does yoga.

Jade Diaz

Jade is passionate about sharing the tools of Pilates and Yoga with her clients so they can reap the plentiful benefits of a regular practice. Her classes are empowering and enable the client to explore their breath to find peace and improved concentration whilst strengthening and toning the body through strong yet compassionately led sequences.

Her learning of Forrest Yoga and Stott Pilates and her love for anatomy allows her to tailor and personalize each class to provide a safe and healing experience where clients are encouraged to listen to the language of their body and develop an intimate relationship with it.

Jade has a lifelong commitment to complimentary therapies/holistic healing and bodywork. She was a Community Development Project Manager for many years and her time as a working mother with 2 beautiful children impressed upon her the need we all have to step on to the mat and take responsibility for our personal transformations

Mariel Reyes

Mariel found yoga while she was halfway through a Bachelor of Arts Musical Theatre degree. She realized that practicing yoga helped her with flexibility, focus and strength and added so much to her confidence and presence as a performer. With a background in musical theatre and acting, Mariel was trained to see the power of being in the moment, the importance of breath and and creative self-expression. She realized that all these aspects crossed over to her yoga practice and that both her passions complimented each other.

A dedicated hot yoga practioner, she completed the 200-Hour Absolute Hot Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand; and started teaching right after her training. She continues to be inspired many styles and teachers of yoga and has attended workshops with Patrick Creelman, Seane Corne and Twee Merrigan. Mariel loves that the path of yoga is one of constant learning, exploration, possibility and community.

Sally Phang

Sally started learning yoga about 7 years ago and was inspired by the beauty of Yoga and its benefit that she had encountered ever since her first class. Teaching & practicing Yoga principles from different types of yoga from Hatha, Yin to Yoga Dance has given her an absolute change not only to physical development, but in self-awareness mentally as well as spiritually.

Sally has also been teaching Baby Yoga classes upon obtaining a Diploma Certification in October 2008. In Baby Yoga, we strongly demonstrate to parents that, we are doing yoga with their babies and not for the babies. Thus, this is a totally different way of connecting parents with their babies through touch, movement and voice as early as 2 months old.

Besides, I am delighted to coach and share my thought and knowledge by helping and encourage people to treasure & love themselves, and to be more pleasant, self-awareness, confidence, motivated & self-consciousness through many ways and practices of meditation, deep breathing and relaxation exercises.

Shannon Watt

Shannon Watt, born and raised just outside of Vancouver, Canada, has been practicing yoga since 2001. During her last years of university, Bikram Yoga became her serious hobby, she felt it improved her mental clarity and decreased her stress levels. All her life she played sports and was an active long-distance runner but upon her first Bikram Yoga class she became instantly hooked; nothing had felt so comprehensive, physically and mentally. After finishing her bachelor’s degree in 2003, she trained under Bikram Choudhury and holds a teacher certification in his system of Hot Yoga. Shannon has taught in Canada, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore (she was one of the first teachers at our Telok Ayer studio, too!).

Shannon completed teacher trainings with Andrey Lappa (Universal Yoga) in 2009 and with Geshe Michael Roach (Lady Niguma Yoga) in 2011. Over the years she has studied with many other international yoga teachers such as Shiva Rea, Sharon Ganon and David Life, Patrick Creelman, and Stephen Thomas. Shannon is also a certified ACTP Life Coach. Yoga started out as a challenging workout but has continued to be a way of life and a rewarding journey.
